About Finn

Finn strikes the ideal balance between versatile sporting dog and family companion. When Finn is outside, his favorite thing to do is run full speed, following his nose wherever it leads him. When he is inside, he can usually be found sprawled out on the floor, leaning half of his body weight on the nearest human or seeking out hugs and tummy rubs from his kiddos. Finn loves love!

Finn began bird work at two months old. His natural instincts were obvious, and he soon blossomed into an exceptional bird dog. He hunts close and methodically, although his search range continues to gradually expand outward. He is a reliable pointer and loves to retrieve game. While training for the NAVHDA Natural Ability test, we noticed Finn's passion for tracking. We also noticed that he altogether loses his sense of hearing when he was following a scent.

Jesse looked into opportunities for Finn to 'follow his nose' and learned about AKC Tracking. Since Finn was about six months old, he and Jesse have trained with the local Search and Rescue Team. Together, they've run tracks (following aged human scent trails) in locations all over Northern Arizona. In December 2019 Finn traveled to San Diego and earned his AKC Tracking Dog title making him the first Drent to attain an AKC tracking title of any kind. Finn is actively preparing for the AKC Tracking Dog Excellent.

NAVHDA Natural Ability Prize III.

A dog earns a TD by following a track 440 to 500 yards long with three to five changes of direction. The track is laid by a human tracklayer and is “aged” 30 minutes to two hours before the dog begins scenting. More Information!
